A star-student and the pride of her community, Astrid returns home to Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, with only one semester left at university in Montreal. She announces that she won’t be going back—she’s dropping out. The isolation of the big city and her doubts about her field of study caused Astrid to fail her courses.Humiliated and full of doubt, Astrid contemplates her uncertain future and, for the first time in her life, feels lost. Then, gradually, her sister Stella, a certain bookseller, and the very community she thought she had left behind for good will help her find herself again.
