DANIELLE STURK
BIO
Danielle Sturk has only made a handful of films but each work is defined by a strong sense of vulnerability and creative vision.  All of her films reveal a rare sense of intimacy and visual movement clearly enhanced by her background as a dancer. Her works reflect her unerring eye for the truth brought forth by her skill as a filmmaker.

AtSaint Boniface General Hospital, in Manitoba, Gisèle Fontaine, helps women in childbirth, while Louise Saurette attends the dying. Birth and death, moments of transition that involve a transformative journey, have much in common. The midwife and the chaplain offer themselves as guides on the painful and essential path of letting go. With delicacy and restraint this film reveals the essence of these private, universal moments and pays tribute to the work of the women who, in their deep communion with the people they attend, allow life to take its natural course.  EndFragment

read Joy Without Delusion
Danielle's innate love of preparing the stage, gathering a team of talented and diligent artists, artisans and crew members, organizing, planning and directing live performance events for the joy of an audience, has been with her since childhood. She could be seen touring theatre shows in the summer months, featuring her reticent younger cousins as various animals costumed with socks over their pigtails, performing from cottage to cottage. Her debut as performer began in one of these summer plays where she starred as “The Priest” during the funeral ceremony of a snake that they had unfortunately killed. Subject matter, quality of production and talent on stage, have fortunately improved since.  EndFragmentAs well as performing as a modern dancer from 1985-1997, Danielle has produced hundreds of professional dance, theatre, music and film production events for audiences in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Montreal since 1988.
